Dysphagia Service
The Dysphagia Service helps people with learning disabilities to eat and drink safely
If this is not possible they support people using other methods
You might know if somebody has a swallowing problem by looking for these signs:
Choking or coughing when eating or drinking
The person feels that swallowing is painful or difficult
The person’s face changes colour or looks surprised when they swallow
If they have chest infections or have problems breathing
Losing weight without trying to
The Dysphagia Service will help the person with:
Swallowing
How healthy peoples food is
Equipment someone might need, such as special cups, knives, forks and spoons, chairs and wheelchairs
How people sit
How healthy people’s lungs are
The Dysphagia Service work with staff and carers to find out how they can help a person eat and drink in a safe way
